Why do you need white creme de cacao for the recipe?
Make sure you use the white crème de cacao for this recipe. The taste of the dark version works well, but it won’t give you the look you are after. The white chocolate liqueur is actually clear in colour so it will work for the look of the drink while giving you the chocolate flavour you want. You could also try different chocolate liqueurs but make sure they are clear in colour.
Are creme de menthe and peppermint schnapps the same?
This recipe calls for peppermint schnapps rather than creme de menthe and there are some differences. They are both made in the same basic way using grain and adding peppermint flavours. But generally, the schnapps has a higher alcohol content and a stronger flavour. It usually isn’t as sweet as the creme de menthe. So it works best for this type of cocktail recipe.

What you need to make White Chocolate Peppermint Martini
- 2 ounces vanilla vodka, chilled
- 1 ounce white crème de cacao, chilled
- 1 ounce Peppermint schnapps, chilled
Rim:
- 3 ounces peppermint candy, crushed
- ¼ fresh lime
Optional garnish:
- small candy canes
How do you rim a glass with crushed candy canes?
Place peppermint candy such as mini candy cane in a plastic bag and cover with a towel. Pound bag with a meat mallet or rolling pin until the candy is crushed into very small pieces. Transfer crushed candy pieces to a flat plate.
Run a small wedge of lime around the rim of a martini glass until it is very well moistened. Turn the martini glass upside down and place moistened rim onto a plate of crushed peppermints. Turn it gently to ensure the entire rim of glass is evenly coated.
How to make the recipe
Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and add vodka, crème de cacao, and peppermint schnapps. Shake vigorously until thoroughly combined.
Strain chilled liquid into a prepared martini glass and add a small candy cane, if desired.
Serve immediately.
What if I don’t have vanilla vodka?
If you don’t have vanilla vodka, you can use your favourite normal vodka then hunt down some vanilla essence or flavouring. Make sure it is clear in colour as lots of them are brown and it will spoil the look of your drink. Then add 3-4 drops or until you are happy with the vanilla strength into the vodka and make the rest of the recipe.
